Immense and Fragile. A Tale from the North
Ragnar Axelsson (Iceland, 1958), is an internationally renowned photographer from Iceland, started his career as a photojournalist - working for the Icelandic newspaper Morgunbladid - but later on he became recognized for his fine art photographs dedicated to most extreme places on earth. The 40 artworks featured in the exhibition, excellent black and white prints, are part of an extensive project carried out through Greenland, Iceland and Faroe Islands: Axelsson has been taking photographs of the “immense and fragile” ice and people who live in those regions for decades, aiming to portrait their valour. His long and detailed study can’t avoid revealing the signs of the fragility of this peculiar world, his report though is an act of love rather than a declaration of war. With his artistic research, Axelsson aims to convey his personal experience and make the spectator face the power of ice and the delicate situation of these regions.
